The Story Behind Shanti Design.
A Journey Rooted in Discovery
I grew up in Bogotá, watching my parents build a furniture business from nothing. As kids, my brother and I traveled everywhere with my parents. My dad would drag us into restaurants and make us touch chairs, look at lighting, feel textures, and pay attention to how spaces made us feel. At the time it was annoying, now I understand it became the foundation of everything I’m doing today.
I followed a traditional path into finance and worked in New York, but I felt disconnected. From myself, from creativity, from home. It wasn’t until I went to Indonesia, to the factories my family has worked with for decades, that everything clicked. I was sitting on a legacy, and I knew it was my turn to reinvent it.
Beyond Temporary Spaces, Creating a True Sense of Home
As an immigrant, navigating life between cultures, I longed for a deeper sense of home. I kept searching for “home,” and it always felt temporary. The truth is: unless you build your home, you won’t find it. And the things you put into your space matter. Just like the information you consume shapes how you think, the objects you live with shape how you feel. Good design makes you feel grounded. It gives you confidence. It brings peace.
Named after the Sanskrit word for Peace
I created Shanti to change that. To bring handmade, culturally rich, long-lasting furniture to people who are still building their lives. Pieces that feel meaningful. Pieces that make your space feel real. Pieces that become the building blocks of a home.
At Shanti Design, we believe in slow, intentional design. One that respects the hands that create it and the homes it inhabits. Every piece is crafted with precision, using materials that honor the natural world and the centuries-old techniques passed down by artisans.
With access to institutional-grade manufacturing, we’re on a mission to make high-quality, intentional design accessible.
